PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team captured its third consecutive shutout on Wednesday night as the Cardinals blanked visiting Ithaca College, 1-0, at Growney Stadium.  Fisher, which has now won its last six games, improved to 7-1 while the Bombers dropped to 7-2 overall.

After a scoreless first half of play, Fisher came out the gates strong to begin the second half as sophomore Bre Socker unloaded a shot at the top of the box in the 37th minute that sailed through the Bombers' defense and into the back of the goal to stake the home team to a 1-0 win.  Lauren Fazio was credited with an assist on the play after feeding Socker on a corner feed.

Holding a one-goal advantage, Fisher found itself a player down in the 40th minute, but the Cardinals' defense stood tall and held the Bombers at bay until the penalty was released.  From there, the Cardinals peppered the Bombers' backline with five straight shots, but were unable to double their lead as the game remained at 1-0.

With time winding down and the score still in Fisher's favor, Ithaca nearly netted the equalizer in the 66th minute, but the Cardinals' defense knocked the shot down and ran the clock out to earn the hard-fought non-conference win.

In all, Fisher took 16 shots led by Socker's 11 including seven on goal.  Fazio had two shots to her name while Kelly Bergamo and Lindsay Scott had one shot apiece in the win.

Ashley Maynard played all 70 minutes in goal for the Cardinals and moved to 7-1 with the win.  The senior goalie made five saves and notched her fourth shutout of the season.

Fisher will return to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday when it travels to Washington, Pa. to take on Washington and Jefferson in a pivotal Empire 8 contest.
