PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College women's soccer team won its third game in a row as the Cardinals downed Marietta College in non-conference action, 1-0. The Cardinals moved to 3-1 thus far, while the Pioneers fell to 1-3 overall.

The Cardinals dominated the first half of play firing off eight shots, five of those shots on net.

Fisher had its best chance to score in the 39th minute of play when Isabelle DeStefano was awarded a penalty kick, but it sailed just wide of the goal.

Junior Emily Murray led the Fisher charge with three total shots in the first half, however the Cardinals and the Pioneers would be drawn at zero after the first 45 minutes of play.

The Cardinals were relentless after the halftime huddle, ripping three shots in the first six minutes of the half.

It would take just one goal for Fisher to steal the victory, with Liverpool native Carli Kovarik notching her third goal in as many games in the 69th minute. Kovarik would take the lay-off pass, shake a Pioneer defender, and rip the shot to the back of the net to put the Cardinals on the board.

That is all the Cardinals would need as the team controlled the rest of the half to take its third win in a row. The last time Fisher had a three-game win streak was back in 2014 when the squad took three straight Empire 8 Conference victories.

Murray, Kovarik and DeStefano all ripped three shots in the game, while Elise Olivo and Jessica Aldred registered two shots apiece.

Melissa McGowan picked up her third win in net for the Cardinals after playing the first 82 minutes before being relieved by freshman Gabriella D'Ambrosio.

Fisher returns to the pitch at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18th as the Cardinals step into Empire 8 Conference play to take on Houghton College.
