Keuka to Begin Play in the E8 During the 2020-21 Academic Year
The Empire 8 Conference is pleased to announce the addition of Keuka College effective with the 2020-21 academic year. The institutions location fits perfectly within the E8 footprint and the college will be a welcome addition to the conference.
"We are delighted to welcome Keuka to the Empire 8 Conference," said Houghton College and Empire 8 President Dr. Shirley Mullen. "Their membership within the E8 both strengthens the presence of our conference in our region and fulfills a longstanding aspiration of the Keuka College community."
Keuka College is located in Keuka Park, New York. Keuka prides itself on being a private independent, liberal arts four-year, coeducational institution with a strong emphasis on career and pre-professional education. Keuka currently offers 31 bachelor's degree programs on its home campus, many with specialized concentrations; there are also 27 minors and self-designed majors. The college places emphasis on experiential education through its Field Period, a student-designed internship every year while enrolled.
"Keuka College's robust Athletics program is one of our main points of pride," said Keuka College Interim President
Amy Storey. "With the Empire 8, Keuka College aligns itself with other regional institutions with similar missions and values."
With the addition of Keuka, the E8 will once again be comprised of nine members all located in New York State. The conference currently sponsors 24 NCAA Division III sports and Keuka supports 19.
"We are very excited to welcome Keuka College to the Empire 8 family," said Chuck Mitrano, Empire 8 Commissioner. "Keuka embodies the values we hold in high regard: presidential leadership, a commitment to character development, academic success and an exceptional student-athlete experience."
Founded in 1998, the Empire 8 has developed into one of the premier NCAA Division III athletic conferences, both on the field and in the classroom. With the addition of Keuka in the fall of 2020, the conference will consist of Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College, Houghton College, Keuka College, Nazareth College, Sage Colleges, St. John Fisher College, and Utica College.
"We are extremely excited to be joining the Empire 8 Conference," said Keuka College Director of Athletics, Dave Sweet. "The Empire 8 invitation is recognition of the incredible level of achievement our student-athletes attain, both on and off the field."
