ROCHESTER, NY – Senior wide receiver
Jermaine Cooper of the Morrisville State football team was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 15.
Cooper enjoyed an incredible performance on Saturday night for the Mustangs, hauling in eight passes for 223 yards and two touchdowns against No. 22 Cortland. He scored a 34-yard touchdown in the first quarter and snagged a 9-yard touchdown in the fourth. Cooper, who was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 14, averaged 27.9 yards per catch in the contest.
A native of New York, NY, Cooper leads the Empire 8 with seven touchdown receptions in 2019. He is third among all E8 wide receivers with 33 catches and is second with 565 yards. Cooper is averaging 17.1 yards per reception in 2019, which is seventh in the league and his seven touchdowns have all come in the last four games. He now has three games with at least seven catches and two 100-yard performances this season.
Cooper is the eighth different student-athlete or group from the Empire 8 to earn D3football.com Team of the Week accolades this season.
Conference play continues this weekend, as Morrisville heads to Utica, St. John Fisher travels to Hartwick and SUNY Cortland hosts Alfred on Saturday, Oct. 19. Cortland is the lone Empire 8 unbeaten at 5-0 and is ranked in the top-25 in both the D3football.com (22) and American Football Coaches Association (21) national polls. Brockport, who is on bye this coming week, is also receiving votes in both polls.
