Cortland's offensive line has earned a spot on the D3football.com national Team of the Week, presented by Scoutware, on Tuesday, Oct. 1, for the week ending Sept. 28. The team consists of the best performers by position among all Division III schools during the week. Fellow Empire 8 standout running back Aaron Griffin of Alfred was also honored.

For the offensive line award, the entire starting line is recognized, and only one school is honored each week. Cortland's starting offensive line in its 59-21 win over Buffalo State consisted of senior tackle David Aaronson (Roslyn, NY/Herricks), senior guard Russell Howard (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield), junior center Michael Bailey (Bedford Hills, NY/Fox Lane), senior guard Russell Lugbauer (Poughkeepsie, NY/Arlington) and junior tackle Travis Alvarez (Keyport, NJ/Keyport). The Cortland coaching staff also noted the contributions of senior starting tight end Dave Stegemann (Manlius, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) and sophomore backup tackle Daquan Griffin (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), although they are not part of the officially recognized group by D3football.com.

Cortland gained 580 yards of total offense versus the Bengals – 291 through the air and 289 on the ground – allowed only one sack, and gave up just nine lost yards rushing. The Red Dragons averaged 5.7 yards per rush on 51 attempts, including 11 carries of 10 or more yards.

Empire 8 Football is off to a strong start in 2019, as Cortland is currently unbeaten (3-0) and five teams have winning records. Conference play officially kicks off on Saturday, Alfred hosting Morrisville State, Cortland hosting Utica and St. John Fisher hosting The College at Brockport in Courage Bowl XV.
