ROCHESTER, NY – Three Empire 8 field hockey standouts were named to the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division III Senior Game, which will be played on Saturday, Nov. 23. Lindsay Scott of St. John Fisher was selected to play in the contest, while Jennifer Hilts of Nazareth and Tina O’Donnell of Elmira were both alternate selections.
This year, the Division III Senior Game will take place in conjunction with the
NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship in Manheim, Pennsylvania at 5 p.m., following the completion of the national semifinal contests on Nov. 23. Alternates will take the spot of student-athletes who have been selected as participants but are unable to compete in the Division III Senior Game.
Scott, a midfielder, has six goals and 17 assists for 29 points in 15 games this season for the Cardinals. Scott’s 17 assists and 1.13 assists per game are both second in all of Division III. The Webster, N.Y. native has 15 goals and 31 assists for 61 points in 76 career games. Scott, the 2016 Empire 8 Co-Rookie of the Year, is a two-time All-E8 First Team selection (2016 and 2017). On Oct. 18, she set a St. John Fisher and Empire 8 single-game record with seven assists in a 10-0 win over Sage. In addition, that is a NCAA Division III single-game high in 2019.
Hilts, of Eaton, N.Y., ranks among the Golden Flyers' all-time leading scorers with 83 points on 33 goals and 17 assists in 71 career contests, including team-best totals of 10 goals and 24 points through 15 games in 2019. Hilts earned All-Empire 8 honorable mention accolades as a first-year in 2016 and second team honors in both 2017 and 2018. Hilts recorded a hat-trick and added two assists in the season-opening win at Morrisville.
O'Donnell, the first Soaring Eagle to be chosen for the NFHCA Division III Senior Game in the program's 20-year history, is on pace to set numerous team records in 2019. She is second among all goalies in Division III with a .910 save percentage and is 16th nationally with a 0.89 goals-against average, both of which would rank first in program single-season history. Earlier this year, she became the sixth EC goalie to surpass 400 career saves. The Kutztown, Pa., native was also Elmira’s representative as Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year in 2018.
The top four schools will compete at the 2019 Empire 8 Field Hockey Championship Tournament will take place on Nov. 9-10 at the site of the top seed. The 2019 E8 Field Hockey Champion will earn an automatic berth into the 2019 NCAA Division III Women’s Field Hockey Championship Tournament.
