Bre Socker of the St. John Fisher College field hockey was named the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Offensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, Oct. 23. She is the second Cardinal in to receive NFHCA weekly honors since the award was implemented in 2016.
Socker, who was named Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, scored nine goals over the Cardinals' four games on the week that included four-goal performances in the 6-1 win at Houghton on Oct. 14 as well as four days later in a 10-0 win at Sage. The Liverpool, NY native also added a tally versus Brockport on Oct. 16 and was part of a valiant effort Fisher put on at No. 1 Middlebury on Sunday as the Cardinals came up short against the defending National Champions by a score of 2-1.
The forward was on a tear in Fisher's four-game winning streak leading up to the matchup with Middlebury. Along with her nine goals last week, the junior recorded a hat trick at Oneonta on Oct. 11. The four goals against Houghton were a new career-high in a single game for Socker. When she matched it versus Sage, the Liverpool native became only the second player in program history to have multiple four-goal games.
Along with leading the E8 in goals (22) and points (47) by wide margins, Socker ranks third in the country in goals per game with an average of 1.47. Earlier this season, Socker surpassed the 100-point plateau for her collegiate career. She currently has 134 career points (third most in program history) on 55 goals and 24 assists in 54 games.
