PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher College field hockey team knocked off Washington & Jefferson College, 4-0, on Saturday at Growney Stadium. Lindsay Scott had a five-point day with two goals and one assist to lead the Cardinals as they clinched the Empire 8 Regular Season Title with the win.

Fisher improves to 13-4 on the year and remains undefeated in conference with a record of 6-0 in E8 play. The two-time defending conference champion Presidents fall to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in league action.

In a rematch of last year's conference championship, the Cardinals looked determined from the first whistle as junior Bre Socker went down the field and took a shot on net just 10 seconds into the contest. Fisher would get on the scoreboard later in the quarter when junior Jess Snyder found Scott in front of the net and the Webster native beat the W&J net minder to the right side to make it 1-0 Cardinals.

The one-goal game would carry late into the second quarter until the Cardinals earned a penalty corner and then junior Alyssa Andres slid the ball low to senior Danila Casseri who was able to find the back of net to give Fisher a 2-0 edge before halftime.

Momentum stayed on the Cardinals' side to open up the second half as Scott scored her second of the day about a minute into the third quarter. Andres earned the assist again as the Clarence native sent it over to Scott who had plenty of room to left side of the cage. The forward went backhand and sent it by the Presidents' keeper to put Fisher in the driver's seat at 3-0.

The Cardinals kept the pressure on with not allowing W&J to create any offense while continuing to put on shots on net. In the fourth quarter off a corner, Scott had the ball at the top of the arc and the senior passed it over to Socker on the wing. The Liverpool native used her signature slap shot to rifle one through the Presidents' defense and into the cage for her conference-leading 24th goal of the year that sets a program-record for goals in a single season. Fisher was able to let clock run out the rest of the way to seal the victory and claim their first conference regular season championship since 2016.

The Fisher defense was superb by not allowing the Presidents to register a shot the entire contest. This was the Cardinals first win over W&J since 2016. With the regular season title, Fisher will be the host and number one overall seed of the conference postseason tournament.

The Cardinals head into their final week of the regular season. They will host Oswego State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday for a non-conference tilt at Growney Stadium.
