HOUGHTON, NY – The Houghton Highlanders (13-3) volleyball team celebrated Homecoming by stretching its winning streak to six matches on Saturday, defeating the Keuka Wolves, 3-0, in the opener then coming from behind to beat the Wells Express, 3-1.
In the opening match the Highlanders attack proved potent, racking up 40 kills and a .359 attack percentage.
After winning the first set, Houghton opened up a 19-10 lead in the second before Keuka began to battle back. The Wolves came within two points, 23-21, before back-to-back kills by Brooke Lewandowski finished the set.
In the second match of the day, Houghton struggled to find an attack rhythm early, hitting only .029 in the first set, while the Express hit at a .147 clip.
By the second set, however, sparked by several outstanding defensive plays by Jenna Bittinger, the Highlanders began to click, winning the second set by six points to even the match.
In the third set, Houghton overcame an early 5-1 deficit, reeling off seven straight service points by Bittinger and never trailed again for the remainder of the day.

>> Brooke Lewandowski collected 20 total kills and 11 blocks on the day, including nine blocks and 11 kills against the Express.
>> Amy Huddell added 19 kills and four blocks, while Haley Unverdorben dished out 67 assists and added seven kills, six service aces, and 19 digs.
>> For Wells, Jackie Allen put away 12 kills, surpassing the 1,000 career kill mark in the second set. She also collected 15 digs, leaving her only five shy of 1,000 for her career.
