The College at Brockport football team is ranked No. 25 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches Poll released Monday afternoon. The Golden Eagles received 90 votes to re-enter the top 25 of the coaches poll for the first time since the preseason.
The Division III poll follows the same basic format as the USA Today Coaches' Poll. The Division III Board of Coaches has 42 voters, representing all Division III conferences. The Division III Coaches' Poll is released on Mondays beginning in September and runs through the completion of the regular season in mid-November. A final poll will be released on the Monday following the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl.
Brockport's rise in the rankings was due to a thrilling 32-26 come from behind overtime victory at nationally-ranked Cortland on Saturday. Brockport, the two-time defending E8 Champs, improved to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles have now won 20 consecutive Empire 8 contests.
Brockport is the only undefeated team remaining in conference play and Utica's win over Alfred Saturday helped put the Golden Eagles in position to claim their third straight conference crown with a win at home over Alfred next Saturday (12 p.m.).
