What Type of Community Service Have You Done: I have volunteered at the Transformation Center in Elmira, N.Y. The Transformation Center is an after school program for low socioeconomic children. At the Transformation Center, I have worked with children from different age groups. I help the children at the center with their homework, as well as participate in extracurricular activities. I have also taken the children on different field trips like the Corning Glass Museum and the Cascade Indoor Waterpark.
Plans After Graduation: I plan on getting my Master’s Degree and become a graduate assistant for a Division I basketball team.
What Do You See Yourself Doing in 5 Years: In five years, I see myself just starting my long and successful career as a high school English teacher and a high school basketball coach.
What is Your Ultimate Professional Goal: I see myself having a huge impact on the community that I live in. My ultimate professional goal is to become a 10th grade high school English teacher and a successful high school basketball coach. I also want to have my own basketball training business in order to help put many student-athletes into college.
Any Interesting or Exciting Internships You Have Done or Are Currently Working On: I have recently completed my second student-teaching placement at Horseheads High School in Horseheads, N.Y. This placement lasted for three months. At Horseheads High School, I taught 10th grade English and a young adult literature elective for 12th graders. Every summer since my sophomore year, I have actively been involved in working different basketball camps back home in California. I have been a basketball instructor for two years at the Point Guard College camp. I have also been a basketball camp coach for Saint Mary’s College and Stanford University.
How Has Playing in the Empire 8 Prepared You For Life After College: My experience playing collegiate basketball has definitely prepared me for the life after college. It has prepared me to fight through adversity and to never give up. The Empire 8 has taught me to value hard work and preparation.
Favorite Athletic Memory from Your Time in College: My favorite athletic memory took place during my junior yearl last season versus Nazareth. It was the last home game of the year and we upset Nazareth and ruined their chances of hosting the Empire 8 Conference Tournament.
Biggest On-Campus Mentor: My biggest mentors on campus are Professor Johnson and Professor Owens, because they have both prepared me for my profession in Adolescent Education.
What Have You Learned About Yourself from Freshman to Senior Year: I have learned to cherish every moment. In my earlier years, I always focused on my future and where I was headed next instead of being in the present. Now that I am a senior, I learned that every moment is precious and that it is important to value every second of each day.
What Type of Leader Are You: I am the type of leader that likes to lead by example. I am one to pick my teammates up when they are down. I also like to give my teammates advice, whether it is about life or basketball.
One Thing Most People Do Not Know About You: One thing that I people do not know about me is that I was born premature and was one pound at birth.
Advice for Freshmen Teammates or Student-Athletes: My advice for freshmen would be to use your time wisely. Time management is the key to becoming a successful student-athlete. It is important to become very organized with your school and sport schedules, because if you’re not, then stress will begin to build up.
