Below are the Empire 8 Players of the Week, released on Dec. 2, 2019 for games played from Nov. 26-Dec. 1. It is the 14th Empire 8 weekly honors release of the 2019-20 season.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Eliot Bowen, Alfred, So., F, Salamanca, NY/Ellicotville
Bowen was one point away from tying his collegiate career-high of 27 points as he scored 26 to lead all scorers against Rochester Institute of Technology on Tuesday evening. He was an impressive 9-of-13 from the floor and added eight free throws on his way to a double-double by pulling down 11 rebounds as well. Bowen tacked on four steals, two assists and one block in 35 minutes of play.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Brett Talbert, Utica, Fr., G, Deer Park, NY/Knox School
Talbert had a breakout week for the Pioneers, as he averaged 12.6 points per game in leading Utica to a 2-1 mark in three contests. In a weeknight clash with cross town rival SUNY Poly on Tuesday, he had 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting in just 22 minutes. On Saturday against Neumann, Talbert contributed another 14 points in a Utica win and added seven points against Rochester on Sunday.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sydney Przygoda, So., F, Freehold, NJ/Freehold
Przygoda recorded her third double-double of the campaign with a career-high 30 points, to go with 13 rebounds in a 98-50 win over SUNY Delhi Tuesday. She has scored at least 19 points in all six games this season. Przygoda was 13-of-17 from the field, and 4-of-5 at the foul line. Pryzgoda, who earned her third E8 Player of the Week honor in 2019-20, leads the league in scoring, averaging 23.3 points per game and is shooting 69.4 percent from the field, which is currently fifth in Division III. She is second among all E8 players with 11.2 boards per game.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Harper Mead, St. John Fisher, Fr., G, Hinesburg, VT/Champlain Valley Union
Mead finished with eight points and four rebounds over 24 minutes as the nationally-ranked Cardinals tamed Buffalo State, 79-57, in the team's lone contest of the week. Mead was 3-for-6 from the floor and knocked down two shots from behind the arc in the win.
