Junior defensive back Raeqwon Greer of Alfred University and senior offensive guard Russell Howard of SUNY Cortland were named to the 2019 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III All-America Team on Wednesday, December 4. Both student-athletes earned second team honors.

The AFCA has selected an All-America team in every season since 1945. The selection process is comprised of head coaches representing each conference from the eight AFCA districts, which includes a district chairman and the chairman of the selection committee. This is the third season in which the AFCA has honored a second-team All-America.

Greer is also the 12th Alfred student-athlete to earn All-America honors this decade. Greer, the 2019 Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year, led the league with 60 solo tackles, adding one sack and a forced fumble. Nationally, Greer finished the season 12th with 6.4 solo tackles per game and 64th with 9.3 tackles per game. He also earned D3football.com Team of the Week honors on Oct. 8 and Nov. 12. Greer, a 2019 D3football.com First Team Preseason All-America selection, has 208 total tackles, six interceptions, and two forced fumbles in his first three seasons.

A two-time team captain, Howard started all 11 games this season as well as all 10 games in 2018 and all 11 games in 2017. This fall he graded out at 97 percent by the coaches and was not personally responsible for allowing any sacks. Cortland averaged 425.0 yards of total offense and 36.4 points per game. The Red Dragons averaged 6.4 yards per play from the line of scrimmage. He was also a 2019 All-Empire 8 selection.

Howard is the eighth Cortland player overall, and first since 2008, to earn AFCA All-America honors.

In addition, Howard is scheduled to represent the Red Dragons at the 10th Annual National Bowl senior game on Sunday, Dec. 8, in Daytona, Fla. The National Bowl will be played at Daytona Municipal Stadium and will feature athletes from non-FBS (Division I Football Bowl Subdivision) schools. Kickoff is at 9:30 a.m., and the game will be broadcast at www.nationalbowl.org/tv.
