St. John Fisher's Tony Silvanic Named Academic All-American

Silvanic Becomes 23rd Academic All-American in St. John Fisher School History
Tony Silvanic, a junior on the St. John Fisher football team, was one of just 12 Division III student-athletes to carry a 4.0 grade-point average and be named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America Division III Football Teams as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recently. He was named a Second Team Academic All-American.

A finance major at St. John Fisher, Silvanic had a breakout season in 2018 as the linebacker ranked third overall on the team and was 12th in the Empire 8 in total tackles with 68. Silvanic played in all nine games for Fisher and finished his season with five tackles for a loss including a half sack and a forced fumble.
The Chenango Forks, N.Y. native came on strong over the Cardinals' final four games of the 2018 campaign as he notched double-digit tackles three times including a career-high 18 stops against Morrisville State.
Silvanic becomes the 23rd Academic All-American in the College's history and third this year after
Peter Girardi and
Mark VanMarter were each honored following the outdoor track and field season in June. In all, Silvanic is one of five football players to be recognized for their athletic and academic achievement as he joins
Cody Miller (2013),
Chris Harmon (2007),
Mark Robinson (2004, 2006) and
Brad Keem (2003).
