Elmira Standout Becomes Second Fourth Student-Athlete in Program History to Win Award

Elmira senior outside hitter Ryan McDonough was honored yesterday as the Sports Imports / AVCA National Player of the Week. McDonough, who also was recognized as the United Volleyball Conference Co-Player of the Week, had a tremendous week for the Pioneers in helping lead them to a pair of wins. 

CLOSER LOOK
Over three matches last week, McDonough posted a remarkable 4.42 kills and 2.83 digs per set to lead Elmira at both ends. He hit at a .343 clip on the offensive side in leading Elmira to wins over Rutgers-Newark and D'Youville.

During the week, he picked up his first double-double of the season against MIT in a losing effort (17 kills, 13 digs) and followed that up with his second double-double in Elmira's five-set win over Rutgers-Newark (19 kills, 16 digs). He capped off his week leading the team with 17 kills in the three-set sweep of D’Youville (.519 hitting percentage)

The senior also added six blocks and five aces during the three matches. McDonough is the fourth Sports Imports/AVCA Player of the Week in program history, and the first since Matthew Buffum took home the honor on March 27th of last year.
