St. John Fisher Surges to Lead After Saturday's E8 Golf Championship Action

Four post scores in 70's for St. John Fisher to Take Lead Heading into Final Day

St. John Fisher moved one step closer to securing its ninth straight Empire 8 Conference Championship on Saturday as the Cardinals shot a combined team score of 301 (+17) in the opening round of the Empire 8 Spring Championship at the Hershey Country Club.

Chris Thompson led the way for the Cardinals, as he posted a 73 during Day One of the Spring Championship event. 

Fisher, which entered the tournament trailing SUNY Oswego by one stroke, now holds a 14-shot lead over the Lakers who carded a +32 on Saturday to move to +53 for the tournament. Utica is in third place after firing a +40 on Saturday to sit at +85 while Stevens, which had the second-lowest total of the day on Saturday at +21, is in fourth place overall on the leader board at +88 through 54 holes. 

For the spring championship, Thompson is tied with Stevens' Jack Doherty for the top spot after Saturday's action. Also helping the Cardinals climb to the top of the leaderboard were: Nicholas Calabrese (+3), Colin McGaugh (+6) and Andrew Fedele (+6). Each of the four are currently in the top ten overall following day one.
