Oswego's Sean Paul Owen Earns E8 Player of the Year as Men's Golf Major Awards and All-Conference Teams are Announced

Oswego's Sean Paul Owen was named the Empire 8 Conference Men's Golf Player of the Year today to headline the announcement of the league's honors. Also recognized with major awards were Owen's coach, Mike Howard, and Nazareth's Jake Costa. 

St. John Fisher led the way with five student-athletes named All-Conference, including a pair on the First Team. The Cardinals won their ninth consecutive E8 title Sunday afternoon, posting a +63 (1,207) as a team score to win the tournament by 16 strokes.

To see all those that were honored, please see below. The awards are based on the student-athletes' performance at the E8 Championship which spans the cours of the fall and spring semesters.

CLOSER LOOK
Owen shot a 292 over the course of the four-round event to win medalist honors at the 2018-19 by eight strokes. He shot a spring championship-best one-under (70) on Sunday afternoon, the lowest total shot by any student-athlete during the two rounds at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa. He put together rounds of 72-73-77-70 for the 292 total. Owen was also a First Team All-Conference selection and made a chip in on 18 Sunday afternoon to give him a one-under for the round.

Nazareth's Costa earned E8 Rookie of the Year after shooting a 304 over the course of the conference championship. The freshman shot a 74 on Saturday before posting an 80 during Sunday's final round to earn the award. He finished fourth overall, and earned First Team All-Conference honors as well. 

Oswego's Howard was tabbed the Coach of the Year following a vote by his peers. Howard's Lakers finished second at the E8 Championships and Owen earned Medalist honors after shooting a 292 over the four-round event. Oswego shot a 1,223 over the four rounds and finished 16 shots behind E8 Champion Fisher.
