Eymer and Doyle Score Six Goals Each in Cardinals' Big Win

St. John Fisher College defeated Brockport, 18-7, in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at Growney Stadium. With the win, Fisher extends its winning streak to 18 games, and improves to 19-1 overall.

The Cardinals remain perfect this season on their home turf and will now travel to Tufts University next Saturday to take on No. 6 York College of Pennsylvania in the Third Round. The team will be looking for revenge as the only loss on the season for Fisher came at the hands of York back on March 5 as the Cardinals fell in overtime by a score of 10-9.

CLOSER LOOK
Mallory Eymer and Mary Grace Doyle both had huge days for the Cardinals as each scored six goals in the win. Eymer, who now leads the team with 61 goals, also notched three assists for a career-high nine points on the day. E8 Rookie of the Year, Sydney DeGirolamo added six points of her own on three goals and three assists.

Doyle got the game's goal scoring started as the senior midfielder scored her 44th of the season at the 28:47 mark of the opening half. Following a quick goal from Brockport, Fisher stormed ahead with eight consecutive goals over the next 17 minutes of action. Pulling the Cardinals ahead 9-1 were goals from Doyle, Eymer, DeGirolamo, Logan Chase, and Brittany Halpin.

From there, both sides would trade a pair of goals as a late DeGirolamo tally off of a great individual effort from Molly Tice put the Cardinals ahead 10-3 as the teams headed into the halftime break.

As the second half of action got underway, the two-headed monster of Doyle and Eymer would strike again as the duo scored the opening goals of the second half, increasing the Fisher lead to nine goals. The Golden Eagles would then answer with two goals of their own, to once again cut the Fisher advantage back to seven goals at the 22:11 mark of the second half.

The Cardinals came right back with another goal scoring run, however, this time with five consecutive goals over a 11 minute span. Pushing the Cardinals ahead by 12 goals would be tallies from Eymer, DeGirolamo, Doyle, and Emily Thompson.

From there, both teams would trade goals over the final seven minutes of regulation as Eymer closed out the Fisher goal scoring at the 5:25 mark to seal the Second Round victory.

Morgan Hayes was credited with her eighth victory of the season as the junior made three saves in the first half of action, while Claudia Mocciaro made two saves throughout the second half.

Fisher will be back in action next Saturday when it takes on No. 6 York for a chance to advance to the Fourth Round of the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history.
