Eight E8 Student-Athletes Qualify to Compete at NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Eight student-athletes will represent the Empire 8 Conference at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The championships will be held May 23-25 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

CLOSER LOOK
Stevens' Katie Weeks led the way, qualifying in three different events. She'll compete in the discus, hammer throw, and shot put. Her teammate, Gina Dello Russo, also qualified in multiple events. Dello Russo will run in both the 200-meter and 400-meter races this week. St. John Fisher's Eddie Mahana also qualified and will compete in both the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Weeks, Dello Russo, and Mahana may present the conference's best chance for a national title this coming weekend. Weeks enters the discus with the fourth-best throw, while Dello Russo's time in the 400-meter was fourth-best as was Mahana's seed time of 52.50 in the 400-meter hurdles.
For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
