Over 40 student-athletes from St. John Fisher spent time recently at the annual Giant Read at the Joseph C. Wilson Foundation Academy. The event has become one of the athletic department's favorite annual community service projects.
CLOSER LOOK
The "Giant Read" has students from a variety of Fisher teams visit a selected Rochester city school and read to children from kindergarten to second grade. The annual event is part of READ: Hope in Action Program that is designed to promote literacy in the Rochester City School District.
The student-athletes spent nearly an hour with the children in an interactive environment. Fisher students spent time reading, working on crafts and taking part in various physical activities throughout the morning. Organized by Fisher's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the "Giant Read" is a project that the College has been involved with for eight years and is part of a much larger effort as other Rochester-area College's participate as well.
