Empire 8 Well Represented in D3football.com Preseason Rankings
ROCHESTER, NY – The College at Brockport and Alfred University are gaining national recognition, as
D3football.com unveiled its 2019 preseason poll. Brockport is ranked No. 13, with 230 points, while Alfred is receiving votes just outside the top-25, compiling 48 points.
The Golden Eagles are the defending Empire 8 Champions, having finished 11-1, while advancing to the 2018 NCAA Round of 16. Brockport was ranked as high as third nationally and out-scored its opponents, 500-124.
Alfred finished 7-4 in 2018. The Saxons defeated Salisbury University to win the ECAC Asa S. Bushnell Bowl. It is the fourth straight season that Alfred is receiving national votes. The Saxons have made 16 postseason appearances in the last 17 years, including nine ECAC Bowl Championships and three trips to the NCAA tournament.
The D3football.com Top 25 is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country, and is published weekly. Points are awarded on a 25-24-23-22-etc. basis.
Earlier this summer, Alfred was ranked No. 17 in the Lindy's Street & Smith and No. 20 in the College Football America Yearbook's 2019 Division III Preseason Top 30. Brockport was ranked No. 23 in the Lindy’s Street & Smith poll.
The 2019 season for all Empire 8 schools kicks off on Sept. 7. The 2019 Empire 8 champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship.
