ROCHESTER, NY – Junior safety
Raeqwon Greer (Buffalo, NY/Canisius) of Alfred University and senior linebacker
Alex West (Dansville, NY/Dansville) of The College at Brockport were named 2019
d3Football.com preseason All-Americans. Greer was a first team selection on the defensive side of the ball, while West was a second team pick, also on defense.
Greer, who was a d3Football.com All-East Region and All-ECAC First Team member following the 2018 season, was named Alfred’s first preseason All-American since A.J. LiCata in 2017. On top of earning all-region honors, Greer was named Empire 8 All-Conference First Team during his sophomore campaign, following an appearance on the Empire 8 Second Team a year prior.
In 2018, Greer closed out the season with 56 tackles (32 solo; 24 assisted) and five interceptions – leading the Alfred defense which closed the season ranked third in the nation for most interceptions in Division III.
West capped off the 2018 season with 56 total tackles, including 24 solo, and 15.5 tackles for a loss of 76 yards, and 6.5 sacks. West also accounted for nine pass breakups, 12 quarterback hurries, two forced fumbles and one interception. His dominating presence grabbed him a spot on the d3Football.com 2018 All-East Region third team.
West has helped lead the Brockport defense to record breaking performances during his collegiate career. In the 2018 season alone, the Golden Eagles led all divisions (FBS, FCS, Division II and Division III) in rushing defense, allowing a mere 6.8 yards per game and held opponents to negative rushing yards average.
The 2019 season for all Empire 8 schools kicks off on Sept. 7. The 2019 Empire 8 champion receives an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Championship.
