PITTSFORD, NY – Junior Bre Socker scored two goals and added an assist that was her 100th career point as the St. John Fisher (3-0) field hockey team came from behind to defeat SUNY Geneseo, 4-2, Wednesday night at Growney Stadium.

Senior Kelly Bergamo was stellar in net for the Cardinals as she made a career-high five saves. This included a pivotal moment in the fourth quarter when the Knights were awarded a penalty shot with Fisher up by one. The Liverpool native stood tall and made the save that had the entire team and crowd on their feet. With the win, the Cardinals stay undefeated at 3-0 while Geneseo drops to 3-2.

The Knights got on the scoreboard first with a goal just four minutes into the game. Late in the first quarter, the Cardinals responded with Lindsay Scott sending the ball up to Socker for a breakaway. The Liverpool native juked around the Knights' net minder and beat her on the left side of the cage to tie things up at one a piece.

Fisher looked to take the momentum heading into the second quarter as they piled on multiple shots in the first couple minutes of the stanza. But Geneseo came back down and was able to net one to take a 2-1 advantage half way through the quarter. The score would remain that way at the end of the first half.

Coming out of the break the Cardinals made quick work of knotting things up again. After being awarded a penalty corner, Danila Casseri passed it up to the point for Socker who whipped it through multiple defenders and into the back of the net to make it 2-2.

Later in the third quarter, Fisher was on the attack when Abby Harris set up Gianna Palma nicely in front of the net. The sophomore worked around a Geneseo defender and slapped it into the goal to give the Cardinals their first lead of the evening.

Heading into the final frame, the Knights came out quickly trying to tie things up. On back-to-back penalty corners Geneseo was able to get a shot through, but Bergamo was up for the task with back-to-back saves. What came next was the all-important penalty shot that the Knights were awarded. The Geneseo player went high on Bergamo's glove side but the Fisher goaltender swatted it out of the air to keep the Cardinals on top.

As the clock wound down the intensity grew on the turf as both team fought for possession. Fisher would take a penalty corner and turn it into an insurance goal with just over two minutes remaining when Socker at the point slid it over to Alyssa Andres who flew the ball into the air and squeaked it into the left side of the net. The Cardinals kept the Knights at bay the rest of the way to come out with the two-goal victory.

Socker's five point night puts her at exactly 100 points for her career. The forward also surpassed Elizabeth Cusack Wednesday night on the program's all-time points list to put herself third in the rankings.

The Cardinals out shot the Knights, 20-9, and had 13 of them on net. Harris' assist on Palma's goal was the junior's first career point. This was Fisher's fourth-straight win over Geneseo.

Fisher will have a few days off before their next contest with SUNY New Paltz paying a visit for a 4 p.m. game on Saturday. This is a part a triple-header at Growney Stadium that includes Football's home opener at Noon and Women's Soccer's home opener at 7 p.m.
