Hartwick College junior goalkeeper Allyson Osborne (Nottingham, PA/Solanco) was named National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III National Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday, Sept. 24. The honor is the first ever NFHCA weekly award in Hartwick's program history.

Osborne, also named the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, was dominant in Hartwick’s two home wins last week, posting a pair of shutouts. She now has three clean sheets in a row and a 194:27 shutout streak. Osborne started her stellar week on Wednesday against Oswego, making five saves in a 6-0 win. She stonewalled the Lakers three times in the middle of the fourth quarter during a run of extended pressure by Hartwick’s goal, keeping the game in hand and preserving the shutout.

Osborne was even more impressive in Saturday’s Empire 8 opener against Houghton, shutting down the Highlanders repeatedly in overtime during the scoreless shootout win. With under 60 seconds to go in the first extra period, she stopped three Houghton shots in a row off the rush to keep the Hawks alive. Midway through the second overtime, she blocked away a Highlander shot from under ten yards out for her seventh save of the day. Osborne kept up the stellar play in the shootout. After allowing the first penalty stroke past her, she smoothly closed off any Houghton shooting space on the next three tries, forcing either high shots or attempts right into her pads. The Hawks took the conference opener with a 3-1 win in the shootout, improving their overall record to 6-1.

A three-year starter in goal, Osborne is off to a tremendous start in 2019, having recorded all six wins for the Hawks this season with an Empire 8 best 0.99 goals against average, an .841 save percentage and three shutouts.
