Alfred University men's and women's track and field head coach Dr. Angie Taylor has enjoyed a distinguished coaching career both at the intercollegiate and international levels. Taylor recently served as a member of the Ministerial Committee for the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in Nigeria. In this position, she served as a Project Manager for Team Nigeria in the 2016 Rio Olympics and Paralympics where 12 teams qualified and competed. She was also a part of the 2015 All-Africa Games held in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo where Team Nigeria finished second overall with 47 gold medals – the best team finish in the country's history.
Taylor was previously head coach of the George Mason women's track & field team. While at the helm of the Patriots, she coached multiple student-athletes to the NCAA Division I Championships, U.S. Olympic Trials, Junior Pan American Games and Pan American Games. From 1995 to 1999, Taylor served as a women's track & field assistant coach at Princeton University. Since 1992, Taylor has been a USA National Coach including various roles with Olympic Team, IAAF World Championships, Pan American Games, World Junior Championships in Athletics, World Cup, Goodwill Games and Junior Pan American Games. She also served an eight-year stint as a member of the Board of Directors.

How Does The Empire 8 Stand Out Among Other Conferences: I believe that the Empire 8 is very competitive and holds its own against other conferences. Men’s and Women Track and Field have had several NCAA DIII All-Americans and a few National Champions recently.
Favorite Athletic Memory from Your Time as a Student-Athlete in College: Winning the Gateway Conference Championships and qualifying for the Indoor and Outdoor Division I National Championships.
Favorite Memory as a Coach/Administrator at Alfred: Working with amazing Alfred University student-athletes and watching the growth of the team within the past two and a half years. Additionally, working with Division III All-American Seth Spicer.
Who Was Your Biggest Mentor and Why: Dr. Eden Simmons – She inspired me to complete my PhD. In Leadership in Higher Education. Achieving this goal has given me the scholarship to become a better coach, advisor and mentor.
Most Rewarding Aspect of Being a Coach/Administrator – Being able to provide positive encouraging support to assist student-athletes achieve their academic, athletic and professional goals.
What Have You Learned About Yourself as a Leader and In Your Role: I have learned that I am a very organized and patient leader.
What Type of Leader Are You: I consider myself to be a leader by example.
What Are Some Positive Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic You Have Experienced? I'm learning to accept that things are going to change and I'm just trying to be okay and change with the times. Additionally, it has made me do more self-reflection which has enhanced my leadership qualities.
How Have You Had to Adjust as a Coach or Administrator to the Pandemic? I have had to become more efficient with Microsoft teams and Zoom.
One Thing Most People Do Not Know About You: I am a private person, but am writing a principles of wellness book.
Advice for First-Year Student-Athletes: Don't be afraid to ask for help! As a first-year, you will encounter a lot of new things that you might not be able to navigate by yourself, and that is okay! It doesn't matter if it is about academics, athletics, or something else, your teammates, coaches and support staff all want you to succeed!
Advice for Graduating Student-Athletes: Follow your dreams and do not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.
