St. John Fisher Holds Lead After Friday's Action at 2020 Empire 8 Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship

St. John Fisher holds a slim lead after day one of the 2019-20 Empire 8 Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Houghton College on Friday, Feb. 28. St. John Fisher has 82 points, just ahead of second-place Utica, who has 69 points.
 
Utica senior Mitchell Marlow, the 2019 Empire 8 Cross Country Runner of the Year, won a pair of individual events on Friday. He won the mile run in a time of 4:27.29 and took the 5,000-meters, crossing the finish line in 15:33.43. Utica teammate Chase Pecoraro won the pole vault, clearing 4.25 meters.
 
St. John Fisher standouts Eddie Mahana, Kyle Rollins and Ryan Desautels won the other three individual events on the evening. Mahana took the 400-meters in 50.20 seconds, while Rollins won the long jump and Desautels annexed the shot put.
 
The Nazareth medley relay team of Josh Tomaka, Mike Welch, Chris Celecki and Jason Hall earned the victory in 10:58.37.
 
Day two action gets underway from Houghton at 10:30 a.m.
