Empire 8 Celebrates Classroom Success With Announcement of Fall 2019 President’s List

655 student-athletes and 87 teams earned the prestigious honors

The Empire 8 Conference announced its President’s List for the 2019 Fall semester on Wednesday, Feb. 5. A grand total of 655 student-athletes from the league's membership were recognized for their excellence in the classroom this past semester with the President’s List distinction, one of most prestigious honors the conference recognizes.

Recipients of this honor must earn a 3.75 grade-point average or higher during the semester, while participating in an NCAA-sponsored sport. In addition, the student-athlete must display positive conduct on and off campus and be enrolled full-time at the member institution. The conference states, “Its commitment to serve the educational needs of its student-athletes is the hallmark of the Empire 8 Conference.”

The Empire 8’s eight full-time conference members sponsored a record number of 3,453 student-athletes who combined for a conference-wide spring fall grade point average of 3.11.

Additionally, 87 teams were acknowledged as Empire 8 Conference All-Academic Teams for registering a team grade point average of 3.2 or higher for the fall semester. Six of the eight member institutions had at least eight programs earn this honor, while St. John Fisher led the way with 20 teams on the All-Academic Team. The Cardinals women’s golf program led all teams with a remarkable 3.82 GPA.

“These young men and women embody all that it means to be a student-athlete,” said Empire 8 Commissioner Chuck Mitrano. “To be a highly-dedicated athlete, pursue interests outside of sport and earn a 3.75 GPA or higher is truly a remarkable accomplishment.”

Student-athletes representing each of the conference's eight member institutions were among those honored in the 2019 Fall edition of the E8 President's List. Leading the way was St. John Fisher, which had an impressive 151 student-athletes earn recognition. Nazareth was second overall, as 105 student-athletes that garnered this honor. Utica had 97 student-athletes garner E8 President’s List accolades. Rounding out the top-five within the conference were Houghton with 71 and Elmira and Alfred, who each had 64 student-athletes honored.
