The Empire 8 Conference announced its 2019-20 Men’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team on Tuesday, March 3. St. John Fisher senior forward Dennis Hare earned Empire 8 Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Cardinals to their ninth league title over the weekend. Hare shot 57 percent from the floor and scored 22 points in each of St. John Fisher’s Tournament wins, 81-68 over Utica in the semifinals and 72-64 over Nazareth in the title game. Teammate Sammy Robinson, the 2020 Empire 8 Player of the Year, who averaged 18.5 points per game over the weekend and scored 21 points in the championship game win over Nazareth, joined Hare on the All-Tournament Team.
A trio of 2019-20 All-Empire 8 first team selections also earned All-Tournament Team accolades. Jalon Borders of Sage scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 10 boards in the semifinals versus Nazareth on Friday. Stephen Gabel of Nazareth scored 23 points and dished out four assists in that same game, an 95-85 win for the Golden Flyers. Darius Hopkins of Utica was also named to the All-Tournament Team after leading the Pioneers with 21 points in the E8 Semifinal versus St. John Fisher.
