Senior guard/forward Sammy Robinson of the St. John Fisher College men's basketball team was named First Team All-Region by both the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and D3hoops.com. He was the lone Empire 8 standout to earn All-Region honors in men’s basketball.
The 2019-20 Empire 8 Player of the Year, Robinson led the Cardinals and ranked second overall in the Empire 8 in scoring at 17.3 points per game. Over 28 games in 2019-20, Robinson, who was named First-Team All-Conference for the second consecutive year, accumulated 483 points, while adding his 5.2 boards per contest and nearly two assists per game.
A three-time All-Empire 8 selection, Robinson scored 20 points or more in a game nine times this season, including a season-best 30 points in a win over Utica in February. He was also named to the Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Championship All-Tournament Team after helping lead the Cardinals to the league title and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
Robinson, a native of Cedarhurst, NY, was also one of two players from the East Region and one of just 20 players from across the Division III landscape to be selected to play in the Reese's NABC All-Star Game, which was originally scheduled to be played on March 21st, but was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Robinson finished his career at St. John Fisher with 1,470 points over 103 career games – good for sixth all-time in program history. He is 18th all-time in the Empire 8 scoring annals.
