Elmira College head men's soccer coach Kevin Brenner was recently elected as the chair of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Committee. Having previously served as the chair of the NCAA Division III East Region, Brenner will move into the national chair role this summer in preparation for the 2020 men's soccer season and will remain in that role for the following two years. Brenner is the first Empire 8 men's soccer coach to serve in this prestigious national role.

"I would like to thank my colleagues on the national staff for the nomination, and Kevin Alox at the NCAA office, as well as former Elmira College VP of Athletics Pat Thompson for encouraging me to apply two years ago," said Brenner.

Brenner will guide the regional advisory committees (RAC), as well as the national committee, which helps administer and conduct all aspects of the NCAA Division III men's soccer championship. These committees are responsible for the development of the NCAA regional and national rankings, both of which lead into and assist with the selection and seeding process for the national tournament.

Additionally, Brenner's responsibilities extend to the national tournament itself. He will be responsible for attending the national tournament, provide a welcome speech at the championship banquet, lead the presentation of awards at the national championship, and other responsibilities as it relates to the national tournament experience for those participating.

"We as a committee have a commitment and duty to enhance Division III men's soccer as a whole, the championship selection process, rankings, and the overall tournament experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans," added Brenner. "We have a very knowledgeable national committee in place along with strong regional advisory board members around the country, all working for this common goal. I am excited to get to work and to follow in the steps of all those who came before me."

The 2020 NCAA Division III Men's Soccer Championship is scheduled to take place on December 4-5 at the UNC Greensboro Soccer Stadium.
