Senior sprinter/hurdler Eddie Mahana of St. John Fisher College was named to the 2019-20 College Sports Information Directors of America (COSIDA) Division III Men's Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-District 3 Team on May 28.

Mahana, who is one of just 11 student-athletes from New York (District 3) to be recognized, is now eligible to be named an Academic All-American. Those selections will be announced by COSIDA on June 23.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have reached their sophomore year and have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.30.  Nominees must have also made a significant impact on their team's success on the field of play. Mahana becomes the 13th Empire 8 student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-Region honors in 2019-20

Mahana, a sport management major, carries a 3.42 grade-point average. Last month, he was named a 2019-20 USTFCCCA Indoor Track & Field All-American in the 60-meter dash and previously received All-Region honors from the coaches' association this Spring. In addition, Mahana was named the 2019-20 Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Mahana was set to compete in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships for the third straight season. He was a four-time All-American, as he garnered national honors in the same event last year during the indoor season and was a two-time All-American (110-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles) at the 2019 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Mahana recorded the fastest time regionally and third fastest nationally in the 60-meter hurdles after recording a meet record time of 8.02 seconds at the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championship on Feb. 28 at Houghton. Mahana enjoyed another banner Empire 8 Championship meet, also winning the 400-meter dash (50.20 seconds), while helping lead Fisher’s 4 x 400-meter relay team to victory in 3:25.13.
