ALFRED STATION, NY – Junior Kaylee Kelly had 19 digs and 12 digs while fellow junior Eva Lyko added six blocks to lead the Nazareth College Women's Volleyball team to a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Alfred in a key Empire 8 match Tuesday night.
Nazareth (9-7 overall 3-1 E8) won the opening set in convincing fashion with a 25-14 win and nine kills by Kelly. Alfred (7-12, 0-5 E8) rebounded to win the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-17 before The Golden Flyers evened the match with a 25-22 victory in the fourth set.
In the fifth set, Nazareth jumped out to an early lead at 5-1 but Alfred came back and took a 9-8 lead. Nazareth started its comeback with a kill by freshman Zoe Tylipakis. Two attack errors and another Tylipakis kill gave the Golden Flyers a 12-9 edge. After an Alfred time out, Lyko and Tylipakis teamed for a pair of blocks as Nazareth scored the last three points to win the set and the match.
Kelly had 19 kills and 55 attacks with three aces and 12 digs for Nazareth while senior Olivia Quick added eight kills, six assists and eight digs. Tylipakis had five kills, eight digs and three blocks and senior McKenzie Hart added 19 digs to lead the defensive effort. Freshman Tessa Grover chipped in five kills, 25 assists, 13 digs three blocks and three aces.
Nazareth returns home to continue Empire 8 play Thursday at 6 p.m. against Elmira.
