Junior running back Jala Coad of the SUNY Brockport football team was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week on Tuesday, Oct. 5.

Coad, who was also named the Empire 8 Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, carried the ball 45 times for a career-high 240 yards en route to eclipsing 2,000 yards rushing for his career as the Golden Eagles won their fourth straight Courage Bowl at St. John Fisher, 34-7, Saturday night. He also added three touchdowns on the ground to help the Golden Eagles improve to 3-1 on the year.

Coad is making his second career appearance on the national Team of the Week. The last time he appeared on the list was after he carried the ball 39 times for 210 yards as Brockport topped Cortland in overtime, 32-26, to help the Golden Eagles lock up the Empire 8 Conference title in 2019.

He now has 2,106 career rushing yards and 22 touchdowns on the ground. Coad’s 45 rushing attempts on Saturday were a career-high and fell just two shy of the school-record set by Adam Webster back in 2002.

Coad, a native of Amityville, NY leads the Empire 8 with seven total touchdowns this season and also leads the league and ranks ninth nationally with an average of 139.3 yards rushing per contest. He has set personal records in each of the past two games, helping Brockport win two straight with performances of 214 yards and 240 yards on the ground.

Coad is the second student-athlete from the Empire 8 to earn D3football.com Team of the Week accolades this season, joining Alfred University linebacker Christopher Cox, who also earned the prestigious honor on Sept. 28.

Conference play ramps up on Saturday, Oct. 9, as the Golden Eagles, who are receiving votes in both the D3football.com and American Football Coaches Association national polls head to No. 19/18 SUNY Cortland for a key league matchup from Cortland at 12 p.m. St. John Fisher travels to Morrisville State for a 1 p.m. kickoff and Alfred hosts Hartwick at 5 p.m.
