ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira Women's Volleyball moved to 3-1 in conference play on Friday evening after a 3-0 rout of host Utica. The Soaring Eagles hit a combined .214% in the match, capped off by a .308% third set on their way to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Soaring Eagles took an early 11-9 advantage in the opening set before going on to score eight of the next ten to extend their lead to eight points. Despite Utica gaining momentum near the end of the set, Elmira was able to take an early advantage with a 25-20 victory.
In the second, EC kept momentum on their side, jumping out to a quick 6-1 lead. The Pioneers eventually took the lead in the set (18-16), but it would be the last one they'd see. Following a kill from Maddie Boucher '24 , the Soaring Eagles went on to score nine of the last ten points, including the final three on attacking errors from the home squad.
The third and final set proved to be the closest of the three, with the Purple & Gold taking the finale 25-23. Leading by four nearing the end of the frame (23-19), EC surrendered four straight points (three errors) before Sam Sprague '22 and Boucher put the match away with a pair of kills.
Kaylene Sauschuck '22 led the way with ten kills, surpassing a career milestone of 350 on the night. Amelia Martin '23 and Boucher each added nine to the ledger as the Soaring Eagles went for a total of 38 kills on the evening. Asia Curkendall '25 added 26 assists while Maddie Hampton '24 tallied 15 digs.

Elmira returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host St. John Fisher (12:00 PM) and Misericordia (4:00 PM) in a tri-match at Speidel Gymnasium.
