Nazareth men's and women's soccer to represent E8 in 2021 NCAA Tournament play

Nazareth's men's and women's soccer teams will be on the road this weekend for their respective NCAA Tournaments. Both teams automatically qualified by winning the Empire 8 Championship last weekend.

Nazareth's women's team, at 10-6-3 overall, will be making its 11th NCAA appearance at the University of Scranton in a four-team pod Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's first round game versus the hosts will be at 1 p.m. Scranton captured the Landmark Conference championship and enters the tournament with an overall record of 16-0-1. The Royals were ranked 18th in last week's United Soccer Coaches national poll and 15th by d3soccer.com.

The Golden Flyers had a strong finish to their regular-season schedule, winning seven of their last eight, including shutout wins over Hartwick and St. John Fisher to claim their 11th E8 title.

Geneseo (15-2-1) and Connecticut College (9-4-3) will meet in Saturday's other game at Scranton with the winners meeting Sunday to determine a spot in the Sweet 16. The semifinals and finals for both men's and women's soccer are scheduled for Dec. 3-4 in Greensboro, N.C.

Nazareth's men's team, at 13-1-3 overall, will be making its fourth NCAA appearance at SUNY Cortland Saturday against the Red Dragons (16-2-1) at 5 p.m. Kean College of New Jersey (12-4-3) will play Gettysburg, Pa. (13-5-2) in the other first-round matchup at 7:30 p.m. The winners will meet Sunday at 6 p.m. for a berth in the Sweet 16. Cortland captured the championship of the SUNY Athletic Conference with a decisive 6-0 win over Oswego in the title game. The Red Dragons were ranked fifth nationally in last week's United Soccer Coaches poll and 19th by d3soccer.com.

The Golden Flyers won the E8 title for the second time in three years for their fifth title overall. They enter the tournament with a 14-game unbeaten streak (12-0-2) that includes a 2-0 win over Houghton in Saturday's conference title match.
