Empire 8 Men's Cross Country Programs Compete at NCAA Division III Cross Country Regionals

St. John Fisher's Grnant Srokoe was E8's top individual finisher

Six Empire 8 teams competed at the Niagara Regional, and Russell Sage College competed at the Mideast Regional, as part of the 2021 NCAA Men's Cross Country Regional Championships on Saturday, Nov. 13.
 
The Niagara Regional was held at the National Warplane Museum in Geneseo, NY, hosted by SUNY Geneseo, while the Mideast Regional was at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT, hosted by Connecticut College.

A total of 10 teams (one per regional) will automatically qualify for the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Nov. 20. There will be 22 at-large teams selected by a committee that will be announced on Nov. 14. In addition, a total of 70 individuals will automatically qualify for the national championship. The top-seven runners not from a qualifying team will be determined the top-seven qualifiers per region. Those qualifiers will also be confirmed and announced on Nov. 14.
 
Nazareth had the top team finish, placing seventh overall at the Niagara Regional. St. John Fisher's Grant Stokoe and Nazareth's Nathan McNally earned All-Niagara region honors after finishing in the top-35 of the race. Stokoe was the Empire 8's top finisher, placing 16th overall in a time of 25:52.7 over the cold, wet and muddy conditions, while McNally placed 25th overall in a time of 26:05.7. Nazareth's Cade Eells (46th place - 26:44.5), St. John Fisher's Andrew Ford (49th - 26:47.6), Houghton's Dave Russo (51st, - 26:55.0) , St. John Fisher's Ethan Billings (52nd - 26:55.5) and Nazareth's Matt Reimann (57th - 27:02.9) rounded out runners in the top-60 overall.

Stokoe will await for Sunday's selections to see if he qualifies for nationals.

Alfred - 19th - 601 points
Utica - 20th  - 606 points

Russell Sage - 25th - 769 points
