Below are the Empire 8 Players of the Week, released on November 29, 2021, for games played from November 22-November 28. It is the 13th Empire 8 weekly honors release of the 2021-22 season. Sports featured include men’s and women’s basketball.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Daniel Cook, St. John Fisher, Jr., F, Honeoye Falls, NY/Pittsford Mendon
Cook broke two long-standing St. John Fisher program records last week, while leading the Cardinals to a 107-98 win over visiting Buffalo State on Tuesday. Cook broke a 20-year record after scoring a career-high 47 points as he went 17-for-23 from the field. His 17 field goals also broke a St. John Fisher record that had stood since 1975. Cook also added 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals in the victory. Cook’s 47 points were just two shy of the Empire 8 record for points in a game, set in 2015. It is Cook’s second weekly honor of the 2021-22 season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Todd Williamson, Russell Sage, Fr., F, Schenectady, NY/Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons
Williamson poured in 10 points to go along with six rebounds and three steals in 20 minutes off the bench to help lead the Gators to a 73-67 win at Mount Saint Mary on Tuesday night. Four of Williamson’s six boards came on the offensive end.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sydney Przygoda, Utica, Sr., F, Freehold, NJ/Freehold
Przygoda finished with a 20-20 double-double in the Pioneers’ 86-56 win over Cazenovia on Tuesday. Przygoda finished with a team high 22 points on 10-of-19 shooting from the field while also coming down with a team high 20 rebounds, 13 of which came on the offensive end. Przygoda also added three assists and a steal to her stat line to help Utica improve to 5-0 on the season.
CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kaitlyn Walker, St. John Fisher, Jr., F, Camillus, NY/West Genesee
Walker was named the Most Valuable Player of the Penn State Harrisburg Tournament over the weekend as St. John Fisher extended its winning streak to six games with double-digit victories over Widener and host PSU Harrisburg. Walker averaged a double-double after combining to produce 14.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 11-of-12 from the free throw line. Against the Pride on Saturday, Walker finished with 16 points and 12 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass. She wrapped up the week with 13 points and 15 boards, including seven more on the offensive end of the floor in Sunday’s win.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – Krissy Geraci, Utica, So., F, Rochester, NY/Greece Arcadia
Geraci provided the Pioneers with a spark in 25 minutes off of the bench in the team’s 86-56 win over Cazenovia on Tuesday. Geraci totaled 13 points, while also battling to grab seven rebounds and one steal. Five of her seven boards came on the offensive end.
