Nazareth senior forward Jadyn Abrams and St. John Fisher junior forward Daniel Cook were named 2021-22 D3hoops.com Division III Preseason All-Americans. Abrams is an honorable mention selection on the women’s side, while Cook is a fourth team selection for the men. The
D3hoops.com preseason All-America team is chosen from previous years' All-American and All-Region nominations.
Abrams was named the 2021 Empire 8 Women’s Basketball Player of the Year. Abrams, a 2018-19 and 2019-20 All-Empire 8 second team selection and 2021 first team pick, enjoyed an excellent year for the Golden Flyers, averaging 18.0 points per game to go along with 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game, while shooting 49 percent from the floor, 48 percent from 3-point range and 86 percent from the foul line. Abrams scored in doubles figures in all 12 games during the COVID-19 shortened 2021 season, leading Nazareth to its first Empire 8 Championship.
Abrams enters the 2021-22 season just 98 points shy of 1,000 for her storied career.
Cook enjoyed a tremendous spring 2021 season, earning Empire 8 Men’s Basketball Player of the Year honors, while garnering D3hoops.com First Team All-Region accolades. He led the league in scoring last spring, averaging 21.5 points per game, while also pulling down a league-best 10.9 rebounds per game and ranked second in field goal percentage at 57.5 percent. Cook finished the season with 10 double-doubles and eclipsed the 25-point plateau three times. He scored 36 points and had 12 rebounds in a win over Utica on March 18 before establishing a new career-high five days later against Houghton with 38 points on 14-of-20 shooting.
The 2021-22 Division III basketball season gets underway this weekend. Conference play begins on Jan. 4, 2022.
