Michael Bailey, Dylan Dubuque and Devin Smith of SUNY Cortland and Alaan Montgomery of SUNY Brockport were named to the 2021 D3football.com All-America Team. Bailey and Dubuque were second team selections, while Smith garnered third team honors and Montgomery earned fourth team plaudits. All four student-athletes earned their first All-America honor.
Bailey, a senior offensive lineman, helped Cortland’s offense rack up 4,856 yards in 12 games (404.7 yards per game), which led the Empire 8 in addition to 497 points (41.4 points per game). The Bedford Hills, N.Y. native also earned All-Empire 8 first team honors as an offensive lineman. The Red Dragons amassed at least 400 yards of offense seven times in 2021, including a pair of 500-yard contests with Bailey serving on the offensive line. Earlier in the month, Bailey garnered D3football.com All-Region first team accolades.
Dubuque was a standout at both linebacker and special teams during his senior season in 2021, earning All-American honors as a special teamer. He led a stout Cortland defense that allowed just 10.5 points, fourth fewest among all Division III teams this season and 213.8 yards per game (fifth fewest nationally) in 2021. A native of East Greenbush, NY, Dubuque recorded 68 tackles (38 solo) to go along with 15 quarterback hurries, 7.5 tackles for a loss, 2.0 sacks a fumble recovery and three blocked kicks (tied for 14th in Division III). Dubuque also recorded three touchdowns this season, one via fumble recovery, an interception and a blocked field goal. He was the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year and earned D3football.com All-Region first team accolades at both the linebacker and special teams positions.
Smith, a senior defensive end, earned All-Empire 8 first team honors last month for the second time in 2021 and was a D3football All-Region first team pick. A native of Utica, NY, Smith, who served as a team captain for the Red Dragons, tallied 46 total tackles (22 solo) to go along with a league-best 6.5 sacks and 7.0 tackles for loss. He also added 27 quarterback hurries and was among the league leaders with three forced fumbles.
Montgomery, a senior safety, also earned All-Empire 8 first team honors last month and D3football.com All-Region second team accolades. In 2021, he tied Brockport’s single season record with nine interceptions. A native of Buffalo, NY, Montgomery capped the 2021 season finishing second among all Division III players with 0.88 interceptions per game. Montgomery also added 30 tackles (20 solo), two tackles for a loss and seven pass breakups.
