Graduate student Michael Bailey and senior Paul Imperiale of SUNY Cortland were named to the 2021 Academic All-District ® Football Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). Both student-athletes were District 3 selections, which encompasses all of New York state.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Honorees selected first-team Academic All-District® will advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. Division III Academic All-America® honorees will be announced on Dec. 11.
Bailey, a native of Bedford Hills, N.Y., holds a 3.43 GPA as a biology major, while helping Cortland’s offense rack up 4,856 yards in 12 games (404.7 yards per game), which led the Empire 8 in addition to 497 points (41.4 points per game). He also earned All-Empire 8 first team honors as an offensive lineman. The Red Dragons amassed at least 400 yards of offense seven times in 2021, including ta pair of 500-yard contests with Bailey serving on the offensive line. It is his third All-District honor.
Imperiale, a native of East Meadow, NY, garnered All-Empire 8 second team honors in 2021. The senior linebacker holds a 3.31 GPA as a physical education major. Imperiale finished second on the Red Dragons with 74 tackles to go along with 3.5 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one interception and one forced fumble.
