Community Service Roles:
I have had the opportunity to be involved with the community through Camp Good Days and Special Times. Camp Good Days and Special Times is a camp for kids with cancer or sickle cell anemia and I have been able to volunteer at a number of events including the Courage Bowl, the Teddi Dance for Love, Camp Clean Up, and other fundraising events.

Why did you join SAAC? What’s was your goal when joining?
I joined SAAC because I wanted the opportunity to advocate for myself and my teammates as students, athletes, and members of the campus community. Being a part of SAAC allows student athletes to agents of change, which is something that I value as a part of my college experience.

What projects are you currently working on in your campus community?
We are currently working on getting our spring sports teams involved with Team IMPACT. This organization matches sports teams with children who have serious chronic illness to allow the kids and athletes to form lasting bonds. Our teams are in the process of applying to be Team IMPACT teams and will hopefully be matched with kids in the near future.

What is Your Proudest Community Service Achievement?
My proudest community service achievement came last year when the Teddi Dance for Love, a club I am a captain for, was able to put on an entirely virtual dance marathon and exceed any of our previous fundraising records. We have raised money for Camp Good Days and Special Times each year for the past 40 years and although last years dance had to take on an entirely different form, the entire committee was able to come together and make it happen.

Why Did You Decide to Attend St. John Fisher?

I decided to attend St. John Fisher College because as soon as I stepped on campus and met with my future coaches I felt like I was at home and could not picture myself anywhere else.

How has Playing Collegiately and in the Empire 8 Prepared You For Life After College?
Being a college athlete has taught me a number of valuable skills that I will carry on post grad including time management skills, leadership, dedication, and collaboration skills. I have also been able to form valuable relationships that I will carry with me long past graduation.

Favorite Athletic Memory from Your Time in College:
My favorite athletic memory would have to be our game this past soccer season against the University of Rochester. We played as one unit and were able to earn our first victory over the U of R in 38 years. It was such a team victory and amazing to be a part of.

Advice to Younger Student-Athletes on Why You Chose to Play a Collegiate Sport and Why Playing A Sport and Getting Involved With SAAC is So Important/Beneficial?

Playing a sport in college is exceptionally valuable. It allows you to find a community on campus and continue with something you are passionate about at a higher level. The support and family you are able to gain through college athletics is unmatched. Joining SAAC allows you to support and advocate for yourself and your teammates in new and impactful ways.
m or not will see you as someone they can confide in without having to go straight to adults because that can be scary to some.
