The St. John Fisher College softball team was included among the nation's elite last week as the National Fastpitch Coaches Association released its preseason poll with the Cardinals being ranked 11th in Division III.
Fisher went 7-3 during the abbreviated 2020 season and finished the campaign ranked 17th overall. Head coach
Bari Mance's team made its way to Arizona last March to take part in the annual NFCA Leadoff Classic where it faced some of the top teams in the nation. St. John Fisher won the 2019 Empire 8 Championship.
After dropping its first two games of the season, Fisher rattled off five straight wins including three over Emerson as part of the Tucson Invitational. From there, Fisher took No. 4 East Texas Baptist to the brink before falling 1-0 in a hard-fought seven-inning affair. The Cardinals rebounded the following evening with a 7-4 win over No. 14 St. Thomas before closing out the year with a 5-3 win over Piedmont.
The 2021 season is scheduled to get underway on April 3rd at home with a doubleheader against Nazareth College followed by a twin billing at home against Empire 8 newcomer Keuka College one week later on April 10th.
