ROCHESTER, NY – Junior Josh Pomerleau set his career-best effort in the Pole Vault and was one of the eight different athletes to win events for the Nazareth College Men's Track and Field team Saturday in a season-opening victory over Roberts Wesleyan at the Golisano Training Center.
Nazareth won the team scoring with a 63-49 advantage.
Pomerleau had a chance to set a new career-best by clearing the 4.10 meter (13' 5 ¼") height. He had a chance to push the personal best but snapped a pole on the first of three attempts at the next highest mark.
Additional first place finishers for the Golden Flyers included sophomore Connor McCauslin who won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7:37, fellow sophomore Mike Welch who won both the 200 (23.71) and the 400 (52.34) races, junior Josh Tomaka who won the 800-meter race with a winning time of 2:03.12 and sophomore Kaleb Luton who posted the top finish in the 60-meter hurdles (8.72).
Nazareth also won four field events with sophomore Arthur DeVasto winning the high jump (1.68 meters (5' 6"), Pomerleau in the Pole Vault, junior Matthew Johnson in the Triple Jump (11.71 meters (38' 5")) and junior Christopher Perez in the Weight Throw (12.20 meters (40' ½")).
McCauslin was second in the hurdles and Luton was second in the 60-meter dash while the team of Johnson, senior Christopher Celecki, junior Patrick Healy and Welch took second in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:40.15.
The Golden Flyers will compete against the University of Rochester and Roberts Wesleyan next weekend at the Golisano Training Center.
