ROCHESTER, NY – Sophomore distance runner Emily Weaver broke away in the final four laps to win the 3K race and was one of seven first-place finishers for the Nazareth College Women's Track and Field team as the Golden Flyers opened the 2021 Indoor season with a dual victory over Roberts Wesleyan Saturday at the Golisano Training Center on campus.
Nazareth won the team scoring with a 72-48 advantage.
Weaver was in a tight race until the 2000-meter point when she broke away for a convincing victory of nearly 20 seconds with an 11:45.93 time.
The Golden Flyers also won the 400-meter race as freshman Lauren Bendall clocked a 1:04.13 for the first place finish and senior Abbey Szumloz was second with a time of 1:05.75. Junior Claire Bargabos won the 800-meter race with a 2:35.87 and freshman Paige Ackley was second at 2:36.17.
Bargabos and Bendall teamed with freshman Hannah Ragule and junior Brenna Johnson for the first place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:19.32.
Ragule added first-place finishes in the long jump (5.08 meters (16' 8")) and the Triple Jump (10.48 meters (34' 4 ¾)) and fellow freshman Lea Richard was a double winner with the top throw in both the shot put (10.71 meters (35' 1 ¾")) and the weight throw (13.96 meters (45' 9 ¾")).
Johnson added a pair of second place finishes in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash while sophomore Sydney Vanderhoof was second in the 60-meter hurdles. Freshman Isabella Heath was second in both the long and triple jump events while junior Gabrielle Pighetti was second in both throwing events. The top finisher for Nazareth in the mile was junior Madeline Dovi who placed fourth with a time of 5:54.12.
