Nazareth Powers Past Houghton for Broderick’s 400th Win

Senior Stephen Gabel tied his season best with 23 points to lead the Nazareth College Men's Basketball team to a 67-50 victory Saturday afternoon at Houghton. The win was the 400th in head coach Kevin Broderick's 25-year coaching career.

Broderick recorded 209 victories in 13 seasons at SUNY Oswego and now has 191 wins in 12 seasons at Nazareth.

Junior Zach Stenglein added 12 points and 10 rebounds and fellow junior Jonathan Park chipped in 11 points and a team-leading 11 rebounds.

The Golden Flyers (5-1 overall, 5-0 Empire 8) led by six points at 30-24 at halftime but pulled away in the second half on the strength on 45 percent (13-for-29) shooting from the field in the second half which including 6-for-12 from 3-point range.

Nazareth also held a 49-36 rebounding advantage in the contest while holding Houghton to a 33% shooting percentage and a 21% average from 3-point range.

The Golden Flyers return to action Tuesday at home against St. John Fisher and play at Russell Sage Friday.
