St. John Fisher won its second consecutive Empire 8 Indoor Track & Field Championship and fourth overall in program history, earning victories in 10 of 16 events to score 213 team points and win the 2021 title at Nazareth’s Golisano Training Center on March 20. Host Nazareth was second with 143 team points.
Senior standout Kyle Rollins of St. John Fisher won his third straight Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Meet honor, winning all three jump events on the day. Rollins began the day by winning his second long jump title with a leap of 6.76 meters. He then secured his third triple jump in four seasons with a jump of 13.82 meters and closed out the meet by winning his fourth consecutive E8 high jump title, clearing 1.86 meters.
St. John Fisher junior Grant Stokoe was named Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Meet after winning the 800-meters, mile run and 3000-meters. Stokoe opened the day by using a late burst to win the the mile by 13 one-hundredths of a second in a time of 4:28.39. Stokoe used a strong late kick to earn a win in the 800-meters for the second straight season by just under a second in 2:02.02 and came back moments later to once again rally over the final 100-meters to win the 3,000-meters in a time of 9:05.73.
The Cardinals received scoring from several members of their lineup. Sophomore Jonah Dean was a dual winner in both the 200- and 400-meters, while sophomore pole vaulter Phoenix Palmer took the pole vault. St. John Fisher scored 30 points and claimed the top-five spots in the weight throw, as Chase Corcoran won the event for the second straight season with a toss of 16.84 meters.
Host Nazareth enjoyed its best finish in E8 program history. Sophomore Connor McCauslin was a dual winner, taking the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.29 seconds before coming back five minutes later to take the 60-meter dash, hitting the finish line in 7.13 seconds. The Golden Flyers also won the distance medley relay.
