For the sixth week in a row, the St. John Fisher College Department of Athletics has been awarded a National Player of the Week as both Bre Socker and Sophia Trozzi of the field hockey program were recognized by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association and Play Safe Turf and Track on Wednesday following their on-field performances during the week that ended April 18, 2021.

Socker, who was named the Division III Offensive Player of the Week, led Fisher to two wins last week after the Liverpool native posted five goals in wins against Houghton and Nazareth. The forward, who was also named the Empire 8 Player of the Week on Monday, scored twice and assisted once in Fisher's 4-0 win over the Highlanders and nabbed a hat trick in a 4-0 win in the team's regular season finale victory over the Golden Flyers.  Socker, who was credited with having taken 21 shots on the week including 15 on goal, finished with 11 points in all.

A freshman, Trozzi was named the Division III Defensive Player of the Week after finishing the regular season with two shutouts in goal for the Cardinals. Over two games, the Warminster, Pa. native tallied seven saves, moving her 2021 record to 4-0.

Against the Highlanders last Thursday, Trozzi, who was tabbed the Empire 8 Goalie of the Week on Monday afternoon, made two saves over 60 minutes before adding five more on Saturday at Nazareth.

The Cardinals, who secured the top overall seed and home field advantage throughout the postseason, are set to host the semifinal round of the Empire 8 Championship at 7:30 p.m. on Friday inside Growney Stadium.
