Below are the Empire 8 Players of the Week, released on May 10, 2021 for games played from May 3-May 9. It is the 15th Empire 8 weekly honors release of the 2020-21 season.

BASEBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Adam Zebrowski, St. John Fisher, Jr., C, Albany, NY/Christian Brothers Academy
Zebrowski took over the Division III home run lead last week as the Cardinals went 3-0 overall including two wins in Empire 8 play. The catcher was 11-for-14 (.786) overall with two doubles, four home runs, 14 RBI and 10 runs scored. He finished the week with an .824 on-base percentage and slugged 1.786 for a remarkable 2.610 OPS. Zebrowski had at least three hits in every game last week and capped off the week with a 5-for-5 performance against Keuka on Saturday. It is Zebrowski’s third E8 weekly honor of 2021
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Griffin Baur, Utica, Gr., P, New York Mills, NY/New York Mills
Baur turned in another brilliant performance on Tuesday as the Pioneers defeated Keuka 10-1. He fired seven shutout innings to pick up the win, allowing just four hits while striking out a career-high 13 hitters. It is Baur’s third E8 weekly honor of 2021.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK – James Murphy., St. John Fisher, Fr., INF, Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna
Murphy had six extra base hits last week as the Cardinals won all three of their contests including two Empire 8 tilts. Murphy batted .400 overall with six hits in 15 at bats including three doubles and three triples. The third baseman drove in 11 runs on the week and scored five runs of his own. Murphy was perfect in the field as well with six assists and two putouts to his credit.
 
SOFTBALL
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Taylor Dicranian, Russell Sage, Jr., P/U, Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union
Dicranian threw her first career no-hitter and came on in relief in game two to earn the win, as the Gators clinched the No. 2 seed in the Empire 8 Tournament with a doubleheader sweep at Elmira on Thursday. She added her first career home run in her first at-bat in the nightcap. Dicranian was 2-0 in the circle with a 1.11 ERA, a no-hitter, a shutout, a complete game and worked in 12.2 innings. She also had an impressive week at the plate as she batted .571 with four hits in seven at-bats, while adding a double, home run, a 1.143 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage.
 
PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Jessica Wilcox, Alfred, Gr., P, Forestville, NY/Pine Valley
Wilcox picked wins over Ithaca and Elmira, the latter coming in the opening round of the Empire 8 Tournament. Wilcox struck out 13 batters and the three-hit shutout Saturday, as Alfred earned a 2-0 victory to advance. Earlier in the week, she only gave up two hits to the Bombers, while striking out 10 batters. Wilcox, a four-time E8 Pitcher of the Week in 2021, is now 14-3 on the year with 208 strikeouts.
 
 
MEN’S LACROSSE
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Nicholas Miller, St. John Fisher, Sr., A, Ithaca, NY/Ithaca
Miller was named Empire 8 Men’s Lacrosse Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player after recording 13 points on nine goals and four assists to go along with six ground balls after leading St. John Fisher to its second straight league title. Miller had five goals and an assist in the 25-3 win over Keuka in the semifinals Thursday. Miller recorded a season-high seven points on four goals and three assists with five ground balls Sunday versus Nazareth in the title game. It is Miller’s second E8 weekly honor of the season.
 
GOALIE OF THE WEEK – Darin Eakins, St. John Fisher, Gr., GK, Hamburg, Germany/International School of Hamburg
Eakins made 10 saves to help lead St. John Fisher to its second straight Empire 8 Tournament Championship. He made two saves in the opening quarter as Fisher breezed to a 25-3 win over Keuka in the semifinal contest Thursday. On Sunday, Eakins made eight saves in St. John Fisher’s 20-6 victory over Nazareth in the E8 Championship game. Eakins is now a four-time E8 Goalie of the Week in 2021.
 
MEN’S TENNIS
PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Matt Cicero, Houghton, Jr., Perry, NY/Warsaw
With the Empire 8 Men’s Tennis Championship tied at 4-4, Cicero earned the decisive point for the Highlanders, giving Houghton its first league title, while sending them to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Cicero lost the opening set to Nazareth’s William Britton, 6-2 but roared back to win the second set, 6-2 and with all other matches finished, took the third and final set, 6-2.
 
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
CO-TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Grant Stokoe, St. John Fisher, Jr., Cortland, NY/Homer
Stokoe was named 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Co-Track Athlete of the Meet, helping lead the Cardinals to the 2021 team title. Stokoe won the 800-meters in a time of 2:01.29 and 1,500-meters in 4:12.81, while running the anchor leg on St. John Fisher’s victorious 4 x 800-meter relay team (8:20.27).
 
CO-TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Daijon Richards, Utica, Fr., Sprints, Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon
Richards was named the 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Co-Track Athlete of the Meet. Richards won both the 100-meter (10.87 seconds) and 200-meter (22.69 seconds) dashes, while teaming up to win the 4 x 100-meter relay in a time of 43.28 seconds.
 
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Kyle Rollins, St. John Fisher, Sr., Jumps, Groveland, NY/Geneseo
Rollins was named Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Field Athlete of the Meet for the second straight time after winning, the high jump, long jump and triple jump events. On Friday, Rollins won his first outdoor long jump title with a leap of 6.76 meters. On Saturday, Rollins, who is the NCAA’s national season leader in both the high jump and triple jump, easily won both events. Rollins won his third straight E8 high jump title, setting a conference championship meet record by clearing 2.10 meters. He won his second straight E8 triple jump championship with a leap of 14.25 meters. It is Rollins’ second weekly honor of the spring.
 
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Brenna Johnson, Nazareth, Jr., Sprints, Cortland, NY/Homer
Johnson was named 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Track Athlete of the Meet after winning both the 100- and 200-meter dash events, while serving as a key member of Nazareth’s winning 4 x 400-meter relay team. She crossed the finish line in 12.63 seconds in the 100-meters and 26.13 seconds in the 200-meters. Johnson was also second in the long jump with an impressive leap of 5.39 meters. It is Johnson’s third weekly honor of the spring.
 
CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Ana Ion, Alfred, So., Multi-Events, Bucharest, Romania/Episcopal School of Jacksonville
Ion was named Empire 8 Outdoor Championship co-Field Athlete of the Meet. Ion showed off incredible versatility with a second place finish, three third place finishes and a pair of four place finishes. She was second in the javelin, third in the 100-meter hurdles, high jump and triple jump. Ion was part of Alfred’s 4 x 400-meter relay that finished fourth, while she was also fourth in the long jump. It is Ion’s second weekly honor of the spring.
 
CO-FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK – Jordan Lehman, St. John Fisher, Sr., Throws, Port Leyden, NY/South Lewis
Lehman was named 2021 Empire 8 Outdoor Championship Co-Field Athlete of the Meet after winning both the discus and hammer throws. She was also third in the shot put. Lehman won the discus with a toss of 36.58 meters and romped in the hammer throw, defeating her nearest competitor by more than six meters with a throw of 48.09 meters. It is Lehman’s third weekly honor of the spring.
