Four student-athletes from the Empire 8 were named to the 2020-21 United Soccer Coaches Division III Women’s Scholar All-East Region team. Nazareth seniors Lauren Begy, Caleigh Cahoon and Kristen Prohaska along with Russell Sage junior Hallie Klosterman garnered the prestigious accolade. Begy and Cahoon were also named to the Division III Women’s Scholar All-America team.

To be eligible for Scholar All-Region and All-America recognition, student-athletes must meet the following criteria:

  • Started more than 50 percent of all games and significantly contribute to their team
  • Nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution
  • Junior or above in academic standing; and, if a transfer student, in second year at school
Begy, of Rochester, NY, served as team captain for the Golden Flyers in 2021 and started all nine games as a defender. She contributed two assists and spearheaded a defensive unit that yielded just four goals in nine games and helped produce six shutouts. She was the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Year and earned All-E8 first team honors. In the classroom, Begy is a physical therapy major with a 3.91 grade-point average.

Cahoon, of Sloatsburg, NY, also was a team captain and started all nine games as a midfielder. She led the Empire 8 in scoring with 16 points on six goals and four assists and was named the Empire 8 Offensive Player of the Year and garnered first team accolades. She also is a physical therapy major with a 3.49 grade-point average.

Prohaska, of Lockport, NY, returned to the soccer pitch in 2021 after missing the 2019 season due to injury and she produced six goals and three assists in six games as a starting forward for the Golden Flyers. She earned All-Empire 8 first team plaudits. As a physical therapy major, Prohaska has a 3.99 grade-point average.

The honor is the latest in a longlist of accomplishments for Klosterman, who helped lead Russell Sage to the program's very first Empire 8 Championship crown on April 17 and was named the tournament Most Valuable Player. She is also a star in the classroom with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a physical therapy major.

Klosterman, a native of Modena, NY, was a 2021 Empire 8 First Team selection.  She had two goals, a game-winner and an assist in the team's semifinals victory over Alfred University. She finished the season with five goals and had two game-winning goals with an assist and earned a pair of Empire 8 Player of the Week citations over the course of the spring campaign.
