Alfred University, Elmira College, and St. John Fisher College women’s volleyball teams earned the United States Marine Corps (USMC)/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season.
A total of 1,275 teams from NCAA, NAIA, Two-Year Colleges and high school organizations earned the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 season. A remarkable total of 233 Division III women’s volleyball programs received Team Academic honors.
Alfred earned its fourth straight AVCA All-Academic Team honor and fifth overall, while Elmira garnered the presigious accolade for the ninth straight season and 14th in program history. St. John Fisher now has seven straight AVCA All-Academic Team honors and 13 overall.
“Even though teams might not have played during their usual season or may not have competed at all during the past year, coaches still found ways to lead their players to academic excellence.” said AVCA Executive Director Kathy DeBoer. “This is a testament to the important role volleyball coaches play in their players success both on and off the court.”
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
St. John Fisher also garnered AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll accolades for posting one of the top 50 team GPAs in Division III during the 2020-21 season.
